Jump Start Your Metabolism
Hi guys! So, a common question I hear from our new members wanting to get in shape is, "Now what?". They have their gym membership, but are often unaware of what they should be doing outside of the gym to help jump start their weight loss goals. I think this is probably a question many people have regardless of their chosen fitness pursuit. What do they do before and after they pick up those weights, or hop on that treadmill?
First, water. I can't stress the importance of water enough. Water keeps our muscles hydrated and pliable, flushing toxins, and reducing soreness. Picture a sponge in place of our muscles. If you try and bend it when dry, you will find it is difficult to move, and in some cases might even break apart. Now, add water. The more water you add, the more pliable the sponge becomes. This is similar to what our muscles experience.
Second, eat breakfast! Breakfast is what jump starts your metabolism for the day, and you don't want to wait until noon to do so. Many people habitually skip breakfast, thinking skipping a meal will help with their weight loss goals. However, this is absolutely NOT the meal to skip.
Next, take into consideration the size of your meals. Americans have it all wrong. We skip breakfast, go out with our friends and have a big lunch, then go home at the end of the day and eat a huge dinner. Remember what food is for though. It's to fuel our bodies. We don't need that many calories to fuel our bodies for sleep. Instead, we should have a large breakfast to let our bodies know what pace of metabolism we're setting for the day, a medium lunch, and a small dinner at the end of the day with a few healthy snacks thrown in between throughout the day.
Another tip is to remove carbs after lunch. Again, carbs are our fuel, and there's no need for them after lunch.
Lastly, don't drink your calories. Juice, soda, dessert coffees, etc., are full of sugars and useless calories. Save your calories for a healthy snack that will better fuel your day and keep you feeling full and satisfied longer.
Try changing these few simple things and watch what a difference it will make in your weight loss goals. :)
